- ✓Already certified? No action needed — your credential still counts
CompTIA has retired the 220-1101 (Core 1) and 220-1102 (Core 2) exams as of September 25, 2025. Anyone starting the A+ certification now tests on the newer 220-1201 and 220-1202 series, which launched in March 2025.
The refreshed exams follow CompTIA's roughly three-year update cycle. The headline changes: more weight on networking, security, and cloud technologies, plus — for the first time — explicit coverage of AI considerations in everyday IT support work.
If you were studying for the 220-1101/1102 version, those study materials are now out of date. Candidates mid-prep should switch to 220-1201/1202 resources before scheduling. Existing A+ holders are unaffected — your certification remains valid through its normal renewal cycle.
